From the ENTREPRENEURSHIP UNITSOCIAL IENT, ETHICS AND VALUES IN ENGINEERING we consider reanswer two questions:
What is the ultimate purpose of Education? Can we train competent people who are at the same time supportive and aware of their environment?
The activity of this Unit aims to recover various concepts such as: responsibility, unity, collaboration, extension, commitment and person.
It consists of the training of people with judgment, who know and analyze the consequences of their actions and choose, committing themselves to the common good. Considering that responsibility is always exercised from freedom. A person who does not feel free or protagonist of his actions cannot exercise responsibility for them. In this way, people who go through our programs learn to be aware of their own freedom, the responsibility that this gives them and to develop or not the commitment that their decisions require of them.
Through the generation of spaces for dialogue and exchange integrated into Engineering Education, students have the possibility of coming into contact with situations that force them to take sides in such a way that they begin to be aware of their own ethics. Once one is aware of their values, and the ethics that move them, and also knows the consequences of an action in one direction or another, that is when they are in a position to decide the choice they want to make and carry it out.
MISSION:
The Unit carries out actions whose objective is the transformation of students so that they are responsible in their actions, and encourages entrepreneurship and proactivity in accordance with these criteria.
The Unit promotes a social transformation based on commitment, innovation and involvement. It also acts as a domino effect, since the impact of their actions becomes a starting point for the following ones, making other people gain confidence to modify their attitude, in any other environment, and transform it into action, thus extending the vision of the Unit. Social initiatives that emanate from citizens not only lead to faster adaptations, but also favor decentralized thinking and action, which strengthen democracy.
VISION:
The vision of the Unit is that anyone can contribute to changing their environment. The Unit promotes the training of professionals for a society that introduces values in its actions that prioritize what is “important” over what is “urgent.” It promotes participatory, critical and reflective citizenship with the environment, with an innovative nature, with initiative to promote change and that faces problems with ingenuity, in an effective and solvent manner.
