The Course is an activity open to students and professionals from educational centers, national or foreign. In a theoretical-practical modality, it seeks to transmit knowledge in direct contact with the terrain, favoring the performance of eminently practical exercises in carefully chosen typical locations.

The knowledge acquired each day is subjected to debates in which solutions, ideas and conclusions are presented that enrich the teaching character and the research vocation of the students.

The course takes place in a setting between the transversal of the South-Central Pyrenees, from the Sierras Marginales to the Alta Cadena.

The first camp was organized in 1955, under the direction of Prof. José María Ríos. Since then, they have been held every summer (except 2008, 2012, 2020 and 2021), during the month of July. Once Prof. José María Ríos retires, the management of the camp passes to prof. Luis María Ríos Aragües.

Until 1988, the function of the Camps was field work, to update the geological cartography of the Pyrenees, a task that was completed in the XXXIV Pont de Suert Camp. At that moment, it was decided to take advantage of the great knowledge about the Aragonese Pyrenees and the Camps began to have a more educational focus for those attending.

With the retirement of Professor Prof. Luis María Ríos Aragüés, the direction remains in the hands of Professor Domingo Alfonso Martín Sánchez, who, taking advantage of the change in methodology that the adoption of the Bologna plan entails, redesigns the camp to the current 10-day structure in three preferred areas of the Pyrenees (Valle de Fact, Ainsa and Benasque).

At this time, the participation of different professionals and students from different fields, both national and international, is advocated (Eelisa Alliance).
