ROBECO Chair in Sustainability and Primary Resources

The ROBECO Chair in Sustainability and Primary Resources belongs to the list of University-Business Chairs of the Higher Technical School of Mining and Energy Engineers (ETSIME) of the Polytechnic University of Madrid (UPM).

This agreement, signed in 2022, represents a confluence of interests and sharing, where the University (UPM) and the Company (Robeco) show their interest and effort in introducing sustainability as an inexcusable concept in the relationship between human activity and the environment, the economy, and its own correspondence as a society.

GOALS:

The objectives that have led to the creation of the Chair by Robeco are to contribute to the dissemination and transfer of knowledge in the field of sustainability and sustainable investment, in its general application to the various fields it affects (social, environmental and economic), with the interest of particularizing from sustainability in the field of primary resources, such as minerals and energy, and everything that this encompasses in the current period, such as aspects of decarbonization, the arrival of the consideration of the impact and sustainable criteria (ESG), the importance of the Sustainable Development Goals, the circular economy, and the arrival of new technologies, among others.

A key objective will be to collaborate in completing the new space that appears for the ETSIME activity with the integration of sustainability in the field of natural resources, and more specifically in that of non-renewable resources. The vision of a global leading company in sustainable investment provides knowledge that must be differentiating to increase knowledge, both of the School and its students and nearby professionals, and the visibility of the School in other areas than those usual for the university.

The promotion of the concepts and approaches of sustainability and sustainable investment in the field of the chair is very topical, and will be aimed mainly at students of the ETSI Mines and Energy, university professors, in coexistence with related professionals, and in particular to the industrial sector and the financial sector, remaining available to other interest groups.
