Strengthening Scientific Vocations in Girls and Young People through Mining Science and Engineering

In a world where science and technology advance by leaps and bounds, equal opportunities and the promotion of scientific vocations from an early age become fundamental pillars for sustainable development. With the purpose of inspiring and educating the next generation of scientists and engineers, the project "Strengthening Scientific Vocations in Girls and Young People through Mining Science and Engineering" emerged.

Under the coordination of the Higher Council of Colleges of Mining Engineers and the Higher Technical School of Mining and Energy Engineers of the Polytechnic University of Madrid (ETSIME-UPM), and in collaboration with key entities such as the Social Entrepreneurship, Ethics and Values in Engineering (UESEVI), the EELISA-ESCE community, the SDG Nodes of ETSIME-UPM and the Spanish Environmental Club (CEMA), this project is part of an unprecedented initiative to bring together Earth Sciences, sustainability and engineering to young people and girls in a fun and attractive way.

Through a series of educational videos, Andrea, a passionate children's educator, will guide young people on a journey of discovery, showing the wonders and challenges of Earth Science and mining engineering. These materials not only seek to spark curiosity and interest in these disciplines, but also to break stereotypes and encourage greater female participation in fields traditionally dominated by men.

Launched to coincide with International Women's Day 2024, this project not only celebrates the achievements and contributions of women in science and engineering, but also commits to building a more inclusive and equitable future. With "Strengthening Scientific Vocations in Girls and Young People", we take a step forward towards that future, inviting girls and young people to explore, ask and dream without limits in the fascinating world of science and engineering.
