Applications

  • Determination of the thickness of the coating and the basement.
  • Calculation of dynamic modules, degree of alteration and ripability of the formations.
  • Location of holes.
  • State of anthropic structures (concrete, pavements, technical inspection of buildings,...)

  •  Studies before and after the construction of tunnels.

  • Detection and evaluation of fractures.

  • Determination of resistivities for ground connections.

  •  Slope stability analysis.

  •  Recognition of rock masses.

  •  Location of ferrous objects (depots, pipelines, services...).

  •  Measurement of physical properties of soil samples.

Techniques

Geophysics Area

Among the main techniques used in this laboratory, the following should be noted:

  • EM profiles in the frequency domain
  • EM surveys in the time domain
  • Georadar
  • Nuclear magnetic resonance
  • VLF

Geotechnics Area

The activities carried out within this area include most of the testing of soil and water samples for their geotechnical characterization in order to carry out civil works and constructions.

  • Granulometric analysis by sieving.
  • Granulometric analysis by sedimentation.
  • Determination of soil moisture by oven drying.
  • Determination of the density of a soil.
  • Determination of the relative density of soil particles.
  • Determination of the liquid limit by the Casagrande apparatus method.
  • Determination of the plastic limit of a soil.

In addition to these geophysical prospecting studies, the following are additionally carried out:

  • Advice on the possibilities of the different geophysical methods for solving the problems raised.
  • Preparation of geotechnical reports and projects for Civil Engineering and Architecture, for hydrogeological exploration projects or mining research and environmental control studies with support in geophysical campaigns.
