LPRO - Geophysical Prospecting and Geotechnics Laboratory

He Geophysical Prospecting and Geotechnics Laboratory from the Polytechnic University of Madrid

It is made up of a group of professors and staff assigned to the ETS of Mining and Energy Engineers specialized in subsoil geophysical and geotechnical prospecting. Its facilities are located at the headquarters of said school at C/ Ríos Rosas, nº 21 in Madrid.

The objectives pursued are to continually update the different subsoil prospecting techniques, contribute to the development, implementation and dissemination of these in different professional fields and maintain a fluid university-business relationship.

The ultimate goal is to implement a higher level of technological level in subsoil prospecting work, using non-destructive techniques, with the aim of reaching levels similar to those existing in the most developed European countries.

On the other hand, given the teaching vocation of its members, the described objectives are carried out while simultaneously training technical specialists in these subjects to facilitate their direct access to the world of work.

The activities of the PROSPECTING LABORATORY are framed in two different types, those of the university-business relationship through technical projects with public and private entities for the resolution of engineering or environmental problems and those of research through projects of both direct assignment with Public Organizations as in competitive public calls.

In this way, it is possible to carry out a direct transfer of the research results, both of its technological possibilities demonstrated in the research projects and of the cutting-edge infrastructure acquired for its implementation (such as the geoelectric and geocapacitive tomography equipment that we have).

The main lines of innovation under which most of the activities of this laboratory fall are:

  • The updating, optimization and standardization of geophysical prospecting applications in all areas of Engineering.
  • Research on the relationship of the results of geophysical prospecting with geomechanical and geochemical parameters of the subsoil.
