Fully Funded PhD Opportunities at The University of Queensland: Join the Global Centre for Mineral Security
The Global Centre for Mineral Security at The University of Queensland is dedicated to research, education, and technical assistance, ensuring sufficient and affordable access to essential minerals for human development. Our vision is to reduce poverty, improve livelihoods, and promote sustainable development.
We are currently offering two fully funded PhD scholarships as part of a multi-year Australian Research Council project to explore the mineral security dimensions of poverty.
Scholarship 1: Incorporating Mineral Security into Multi-Dimensional Poverty Assessments
This project uses social assessment techniques to explore how mineral security affects basic needs in poverty-stricken areas. Successful candidates will adapt existing survey tools, conduct international fieldwork, and collaborate with global partners such as UN agencies. Applicants should have a background in social sciences, development studies, international development, and sustainability and experience in quantitative social science methods and fieldwork in developing countries.
Scholarship 2: Developing a Mineral Security Index for Measuring Poverty
This project focuses on creating a mineral security index and economic metrics to deepen our understanding of global poverty. Candidates will analyze existing economic indices that influence international development efforts. Applicants should possess academic expertise in development economics, international development, and sustainability and demonstrate proficiency in handling large datasets and statistical analysis.
