The Robeco Chair in Sustainability and Primary Resources will share knowledge and concerns as a sustainable investor with the world of natural resources and energy led by the ETSIME-UPM.

The Polytechnic University of Madrid (UPM) and ROBECO have signed a collaboration agreement for the creation of the ROBECO Chair in Sustainability and Primary Resources, which is assigned to the Higher Technical School of Mining and Energy Engineers(ETSIME).

The Chair, of a broad spectrum, will address relevant topics such as the decarbonization of portfolios, the measurement of ESG parameters and the importance of the impact on areas such as biodiversity or social justice.

It will also address topics of growing social interest such as the speed of the energy transition, the adequacy of its mineral supply chain, geopolitical interests and various technological solutions, all from the perspective of sustainable development.

On March 27, the presentation ceremony of the Robeco Chair in Sustainability and Primary Resources was held in the ETSIME-UPM Senate.

The Rector of the UPM, Guillermo Cisneros Pérez, participated in the event; the Director of the School, Francisco Javier Elorza Tenreiro; the Director of the Chair; Luis de la Torre Palacios and the General Director of ROBECO Iberia, Ana Claver.

The Dutch manager Robeco takes a step further in its commitment to sustainability and the dissemination of knowledge with the signing of a collaboration agreement with the Higher Technical School of Mining and Energy Engineers of the Polytechnic University of Madrid for the creation of the Robeco Chair in Sustainability and Primary Resources.

At Robeco, the asset manager known as “The Investment Engineers” (“the investment engineers” in Spanish), knowledge has always been the cornerstone of its company culture and its investment philosophy. Her vocation for analysis and research joins her leadership with more than 25 years of experience in the world of sustainable investment when it comes to offering innovative investment solutions to her clients.

The Chair was born from this concern to share knowledge in the field of environmental and social sustainability with the world of natural resources and energy, represented by the Higher Technical School of Mining and Energy Engineers of the Polytechnic University of Madrid, a sector with increasing impact on the current economy and society.

The speed of the energy transition, the adequacy of its mineral supply chain, geopolitical interests or the existence of various technological solutions will be some of the main topics that the Chair will address.

According to Ana Claver, CFA, managing director of Robeco Iberia, Latam and US Offshore; “Energy and mineral resources will mark the development of our society more than ever in the coming years. This creates a global need that must be satisfied under sustainability criteria, which is why Robeco wants to take advantage of this opportunity to also support the world of natural resources in its evolution towards sustainability. That is why we created this broad-spectrum Chair where aspects related to sustainable investment and mineral resources and energy will be discussed, supporting the achievement of a new, more sustainable and responsible model of society.”

Francisco Javier Elorza, director of ETSIME: "The raw materials required by the energy transition must be supplied to our society respecting sustainability and environmental standards in the most rigorous and feasible way, both from a scientific, technological and social point of view. "The collaboration that is now opening with Robeco, I am sure, will help our center to achieve these mandatory objectives in our training, research, innovation and technology transfer activities."
