Dates and duration of internships

In the last year of the Degrees (4th) the practices are located in the second quarter, Therefore, it can start on any date from the end of January onwards., which is when the free period of classes begins so that these students can carry out these external professional practices. However, it is also possible to offer internships at any other time of the year, since there are always students available, either Bachelor's or Master's, or offer them part-time, normally in the mornings (Master's classes are normally in the afternoons). afternoon).

In the case of Degrees, the rooms must have a minimum duration of 3 months (420 hours), if they are full-time (up to 35 hours per week, maximum allowed by Madrid public universities), or the equivalent duration if they are part-time, so that they can be recognized academically. Nevertheless, The most common (and recommended) is that the internship lasts 6 months, thus making it possible for the student to also carry out the “Final Degree Project” at the proposal of the company or entity in which the stay takes place, and in the second part of it. Experience tells us that one semester seems to be the ideal duration to achieve effective integration of the student into the normal dynamics of the workplace and so that they can undertake training tasks of real content and of adequate difficulty (and with minimal usefulness for the Tutors and the entities that receive them, which we understand is not at odds with the above).

In the master's degrees, the duration required for curricular internships is diverse (consult in each case), although it is also recommended that they have a planned duration of one semester (and, likewise, that they may give rise to the completion of a "Final Project). Master”, although this is optional).

Internships can and are usually extended by mutual agreement between the collaborating entity, the student and the university. These extensions, if they occur, already have the legal character of “extra-academic” practices. In any case, by internal regulations of the UPM, The maximum possible duration of the internship (including the initial “curricular” period plus the possible “extracurricular” extension) is 900 hours per course (understanding that the course begins on September 1 and ends on August 31).
